Toddler dies after being left in car near Brownsburg

By Lindsay Doty

A 21-month-old little girl died after she was left inside a car at her home for several hours, according to Hendricks County investigators.

It happened around 5:25 p.m. Sunday in the 8000 block of N. C.R. 650 E.

The family told deputies that they had returned home from church in the early afternoon, and believed that someone had taken the little girl out of her car seat and put her down for a nap inside the house.

The rest of the family (both parents and four other siblings) also took a nap. When they woke up, they couldn’t find the toddler in her bed and realized she had been left in the car since they got home from church, according to deputies.

The family immediately called 911 and attempted lifesaving measures, but were unsuccessful.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hendricks County Sheriff’s Detectives along with the Department of Child Services and the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office are investigating.

At this point in the investigation, no criminal charges are expected.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement, “This appears to be a tragic loss of young life, and our heartfelt sympathies are extended to the family and all involved.”
