Plainfield retiree sinks hole-in-one

It was a bucket list moment for longtime golfer Kent Conover.
The 72-year-old sunk his first hole-in-one at Deer Creek Golf Club in Plainfield on July 30.
It happened on the 16th hole, a par-3 last month.
“It bounced a few times. One of the guys I was playing with said, ‘It’s in the hole!’ I said, ‘No way.’”
“I was thrilled. I called everyone I knew,” shared Conover. He’s a regular at the course and lives in the nearby Vandalia by Del Webb retirement community.
Conover was playing 18 with some neighbor friends when he made his memorable shot on the 147-yard hole.
“I hit a 5-iron. It was perfect.”
The retired engineer who started playing golf because of his brother almost 32 years ago said this was a lifetime achievement. The hole-in-one was confirmed by Bruce Kalb at Deer Creek Golf Club and was witnessed by four others.
