One person died Wednesday after a three-vehicle accident in Brownsburg at the intersection of S.R. 267 and C.R. 1000 N.
Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department released the name of the deceased, Josephine Cranfill, 16, of Brownsburg.
Brownsburg firefighters and paramedics were alerted to the accident at 4:15 p.m. Additional reports from callers on the scene led dispatchers to send additional resources even before Brownsburg Fire Territory first-units arrived. In addition to BFT units, an emergency department physician responded to the scene as well.
According to HCSD, preliminary investigation indicates that a Mercury minivan was traveling eastbound on C.R.1000 N. According to a witness at the scene, the minivan did not stop at the stop sign and continued eastbound into the intersection where it was struck by a northbound Chevrolet pick-up truck. After impact, the two vehicles continued moving eastward through the intersection, and the minivan then made contact with a third vehicle, a Pontiac passenger car. There were two occupants in the minivan at the time of the collision, Cranfill and one juvenile.
The Chevrolet pick-up truck had one occupant at the time of the crash. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The two occupants in the Pontiac passenger car were not transported from the scene for any injuries. HCSD is conducting an on-going investigation.
