Community Thanksgiving Banquet • A full turkey dinner will be served free of charge. No reservations required. Franklin College to present fall student art exhibit • The Franklin College Art Department will present the first of four student art exhibits. Exhibits will be showcased in the Elba L. & Gene Portteus Branigan Atrium on the first floor of the Johnson Center for Fine Arts. An opening reception will be held Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. Students from all levels of studio art classes will display a selection of their work completed during the fall semester. Student art awards will be presented at the opening reception. Authors at JCPL: Jan Brett • the Authors at JCPL series continues with a visit from bestselling children’s author and illustrator, Jan Brett, at The Historic Artcraft Theatre. Jan Brett is the No. 1 bestselling author/illustrator, one of America’s most popular, with over 40 million books in print, and has brought to life lovable characters and imaginary backdrops for children for more than 30 years. Her illustrations are adored for their class beauty and vibrant, life-like images of animals, landscapes and flourishes from cultures around the world. The first 100 families to show their JCPL library card at the event will receive a copy of Jan Brett’s new book, “The Tale of the Tiger Slippers.” Doors open at 4 p.m. for fun family activities. Meet Mrs. Claus • Mrs. Claus is coming to Franklin for the Holiday Lighting Festival! We’ll read stories, sing songs and talk about life at the North Pole. Storytime begins at 1 p.m. with a meet-and-great after. Holiday Instrumental Concert • The Franklin College instrumental students will kick off the winter season with a Holiday Instrumental Concert. Next, there will be two performances by Franklin College choral students during the Holiday Choral Concerts. All three choirs will be represented at the Holiday Choral Concert: the FC Singers, the FC Women’s Chorus and the FC Men’s Chorus. An array of holiday music will be performed at the events. Storytime, cookies and crafts with Mrs. Claus • Visit Mutual Savings Bank for stories, crafts, shop the Friends Holiday Book Sale and check out the cookies made for the contest. Bring your cameras and have your photo taken with Mrs. Claus. The contest is part of the Franklin Holiday Tree Lighting festivities! The registration deadline is Dec. 5. The cookie contest is divided into three age divisions: children, ages 12 and under; teens, ages 13-17; and adults, ages 18 and older.
