Since the closing of the Old Farm Market in Avon (You know, the giant tomato?) folks have had to rely exclusively on farmer’s markets to gather the fresh fruits and vegetables. Now Weber Farms is bringing the fresh back to Avon in front of Old Bob’s. Old Bob’s carries the bird feed and feeders, while the Weber Farms produce stand carries the fruits and vegetables.
Weber Farms spokesperson, Kate McKain says the stand will have the freshest produce of the season.
“Mother Nature’s not cooperating this spring,” McKain said. “So far, we have tomatoes, beans, corn, onions, cucumbers, zucchini… we’re starting to see more stuff come in.”
The growing season has been a bit frustrating this year and the selection of goods is limited, Old Bob owner Josh Williams said the stand has run out of sweet corn once. He thinks it will continue to be a positive for not only Avon, but hopefully for his business.
“It provides a service that people enjoy,” Williams said, “and it doesn’t hurt that they pull into my parking lot.”
While the produce will vary according to the growing season, so will the hours. McKain says the stand will acclimate to the clientele and stay open later depending on need. For now, they open at 11 a.m. and are closing around 5 p.m. but that will likely change to 6 p.m. soon. Weekends the hours are currently 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Webers have wanted to have a stand in Avon for quite some time, but didn’t want to intrude on the Old Farm Market territory. McKain said that the closing of the Old Farm Market was a chance to come to Avon.
Weber Farms is out of Brownsburg and has stands in Zionsville and Carmel. Weber Farms have had stands around the westside of Indianapolis and in Hendricks County for nearly 30 years, McKain said.
Old Bob’s is at 10896 E. US 36 in Avon across from the Meijer store.
