Fatal accident closes US 36 for nearly five hours; one person dead

One person died Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident in Danville.

According to information posted on the Danville Metropolitan Police Department’s Facebook page, a west-bound van collided with the rear of a west-bound semi-tractor trailer that was either slowing or stopped at the intersection of US HWY 36 and East Main St. in Danville.

Gulio Fusco JR, 64, of Sevierville, TN, the sole occupant and driver of the van, was pronounced deceased on scene according to the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office. The semi-driver was not injured. No other vehicles were involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the HCSD Accident Reconstruction Team. 

Traffic was diverted for nearly five hours and at approximately 3:10 p.m., US HWY 36 was open. DMPD was assisted by the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Team, the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Danville Fire Department, Hendricks County Coroner’s Office and Indiana Department of Transportation.
