Doctor found dead when police respond to burglary call

A doctor was found dead yesterday evening (Nov. 27) after the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a burglary in process at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Authorities have identified the victim as 61 year-old Dr. Dean Maar, of Indianapolis.  Maar was the property owner – 5000 block of N. Co. Rd. 1000 – and was shot and killed during the incident.  There were no others reported injured.

A small fire appeared to be intentionally set inside the residence as well.  It was quickly extinguished by first responders.

There was no reported previous law enforcement history at the residence and there are no known suspects at this time.

Detectives are continuing their investigation.

“We want to thank all the public safety agencies who have assisted with this investigation thus far, including the Brownsburg Police Department, Brownsburg Fire Department, Pittsboro Police Department, Avon Police Department and the Hendricks County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department stated in prepared statement. “Our sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to the Maar family as our detectives work to bring Dr. Maar’s killer to justice.”
