Prestwick Country Club officials announced its new management group during a 2019 open house, Dec. 19.
Cohoat and O’Neal Golf Management, Carmel, was recently hired by the court and BMO Harris Bank. “We got a pretty good hill to climb,” ‘Doc’O’Neal, CEO of the Carmel-based firm told those gathered at the open house.
Cohoat owns both Prairie View Golf Club, Carmel and Wood Wind, Westfield – not to mention the firm manages other golf courses. They have taken over the management duties for Prestwick, a year after Golf VisionsManagement, Inc., Mundelein, Ill, was hired by the court and BMO Harris Bank for the same services-after the golf course was placed into receivership.
O’Neal said the first 2019 priority for Prestwick will be getting the greens in better condition.
“We’re trying to make Prestwick Country Club good again,” O’Neal said. He said the greens will be cut six days a week and the cups will be changed six days as well. He vowed that golfers will see a difference in the course by June 1.
Asked if his firm was interested in buying Prestwick, he said it was contingent on the success of 2019, which would, “put us in a position to talk.”
Prestwick will remain open to the public in 2019, however there are membership packages for as much as $1500 for a renewing member and $2,000 for a new member. In addition, Prestwick is selling 10-round passes for $400 and $350 for seniors.
Pricing increases by $100 after Dec. 21. For more information, contact Prestwick Golf Pro and General Manager Jeff Schroeder at jschroeder500@pga.com or call (317) 745-6448.
