Police were called to the Brownsburg Pointe Apartments around 8 p.m. Saturday evening to discover a murder-suicide.
While names have been withheld, Capt. Jennifer Pyatt-Barrett said witnesses said the resident was telling others that he shot his mother. Police say the shooter was a 25-year-old male who was living with his mother who was in her 50s. As officers arrived they heard at least one shot and forced entry where they found the male with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The female was deceased.
The male was transported to an Indianapolis hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Pyatt-Barrett said detectives continue to investigate but initial findings show the mother and son are believed to be from Ohio. Witnesses have also said the son suffered from drug addiction and mental illness. He also had a recent out-of-state arrest and out on bond. None of this has been confirmed.
The investigation continues and more information is expected to be released tomorrow (Monday).
