A friend introduced me to Caplinger’s Fresh Catch in Whitestown after grocery shopping. I’m not a big fan of fish, especially catfish. The manager took his time to detail the menu selections including basa, part of the catfish family, giving us samples to taste. The basa was fresh, flakey and without a fishy smell. Truth be told, when we walked in, there was no fishy smell.
I ordered the Caplinger’s Special, basa seasoned with Old Bay, Chipotle slaw and fried okra. My friend order the Calamari steak, chipotle slaw and green beans. Each entree was cooked to perfection. The house made sides were delicious, especially the chipotle slaw.
Caplinger’s is known for their key lime pie and pineapple bread pudding. I went a different direction when I saw the Limoncello Marscapone Cake. The perfect finish to an incredible lunch.
It’s a good thing we did our grocery shopping first, we were stuffed!
