Amazon wish lists created to help Hendricks County classrooms

Gel pens for kids, magnetic letters, chapter books, and read-along stories. They are just a few of the items on the Amazon wish lists for local school districts as part of a community service project with Purdue Extension – Hendricks County.

The team says they realized now, more than ever, that their job is to be a connector in the community for people and resources.

“When they started talking about their fall community service projects, schools and teachers rose to the top of the list,” explains Mindy Duckett community wellness coordinator with Purdue Extension-Hendricks County.

“We realized with so many things changing quickly due to COVID, we wanted to find a new way to help support our local teachers that would be as flexible as they are.”

After talking with some teacher friends, the group decided the best way to help was to put together an Amazon wish list for each school district to share with the community.

“Our office worked to reach out to the various school districts in our county to request a list of items their school may need over the next few months,” said Kati Sweet, 4-H Youth Development, Purdue Extension – Hendricks County.

Each school corporation’s list was compiled into a one-page document with links to their list that will be shared around the community. Members of the community (in and out of Hendricks County) can help support local schools by clicking the link and purchasing any of the supplies on the wish lists.

“We are excited to work with the schools to make this happen and hope we can encourage our community to show support for our schools during this ever-changing time,” said Sweet.
