Brownsburg Farmers Market returns June 4 with safety guidelines
The Brownsburg Farmers Market will open June 4 with a new vendor layout and guidelines to help keep shoppers safe during COVID-19.
The market, located on Town Hall Green, will run on Thursdays starting at 4:30 p.m. for shoppers 65 and older and those with underlying health issues. General public hours are 5-8 p.m.
Guests are asked to wear face masks while at the market, but masks are not required.
“We’re excited to see fresh produce return to Town Hall Green, and we believe we’ve created a shopping experience that guests will enjoy and feel comfortable with,” said Brownsburg Town Manager Jeff Eder.
Other guidelines include limiting shoppers to 50 at a time, with one-way directional signage guiding guests through the market. Staff will be at the entrance and exit monitoring attendance. Hand-washing/sanitizing stations will be at the market entrance and exit and vendors will have hand sanitizer available for guests. Shoppers are also asked to stand six feet apart at all times with only one customer at a vendor booth at a time. All produce at the market will be pre-packaged. Customers are asked not to touch the goods; the vendor will select and bag it for them.
“We’ve worked with the vendors to ensure they will follow the safety guidelines we’ve outlined, and everyone is on board,” said Travis Tranbarger, director of Brownsburg Parks.
This year, the Brownsburg Parks Department took over the management of the market after the Town of Brownsburg had to eliminate several event staff positions in April due to budget concerns.
The Brownsburg Farmers Market will run on Thursdays through Oct. 8. The market accepts SNAP vouchers. Parking is available in the public lot on Adams Street behind Town Hall, in Arbuckle Acres Park, and in The Arbuckle parking garage.
No food or drink or animals are allowed at the market. At this time, the market will not have entertainment or food trucks. Organizers plan to revisit the idea as the state moves through the Governor’s 5 Stage Reopening Plan.
The market is presented by IU Health West Hospital.
