Indiana University Health has announced the promotion of Doug Puckett to president and chief executive officer of Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital in Martinsville, Ind. Doug has been serving as chief operating officer and chief financial officer for IU Health West Hospital since 2004.
“Doug has proven himself as a leader,” says Daniel F. Evans, Jr., president and chief executive officer of IU Health. “He has been instrumental in the growth of IU Health West as we expanded our care facilities, and the range of specialty and primary care services we provide to patients in our community. We are pleased he will continue his leadership at IU Health Morgan Hospital.”
Under Doug’s guidance, IU Health West has delivered consistently remarkable financial performance, and completed multiple expansions of the hospital building, strategic service lines and ancillary services, growing from 79 beds at opening to 126 beds today. Doug played a vital role in the development of IU Health West’s culture, championing a relationship-centered, multi-disciplinary approach to service, continuous improvement and problem solving. Doug has served at the system level as chairperson of IU Health’s Leadership Development Institute team
“Doug’s contribution to our success has been immeasurable,” says Matt Bailey, IU Health West president and CEO. “His shoes will be hard to fill. We’re proud of Doug’s accomplishments here, and happy that the IU Health system will continue to benefit from Doug’s leadership as he begins his new role with our colleagues to the south.”
IU Health Morgan Hospital joined the IU Health system in 2011. The 106-bed hospital has served patients in Morgan County and beyond since 1924. IU Health Morgan Hospital is part of IU Health’s southern Indiana region of hospitals, which includes IU Health Bloomington Hospital, IU Health Bedford Hospital and IU Health Paoli Hospital.
Larry Bailey, chief executive officer of IU Health Paoli Hospital, has been serving as interim CEO for IU Health Morgan Hospital and will transition the role to Doug over the next few months.
Doug’s last day at IU Health West will be Friday, February 10.
Before joining IU Health West in 2004, Puckett worked at TriMedx, LLC in Indianapolis for five years, first serving as the vice president of Support Services and then as vice president of Operations. Puckett started his professional career at St. Vincent Health, Indianapolis.
Doug earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance at Indiana University-Indianapolis, and an MBA from Butler University.
