Town leaders in Brownsburg announced this week, at the State of the Town address during Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce meeting, that BRU Burger bar has signed a lease in Brownsburg’s downtown Green Street Depot.

The gourmet burger and craft beer hangout will be located on the southern end of the building (the side near the train tracks).

BRU Burger bar is owned by serial restaurant tour Mike Cunningham with Cunningham Restaurant Group (CRG).

The former and longtime Avon resident owns two dozen eateries in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Cunningham opened his first full-service restaurant, Boulder Creek Dining Company, in Brownsburg more than 20 years ago.

CRG owns multiple BRU Burger locations, including eateries in Plainfield’s Shops at Perry Crossing, Carmel, and downtown Indianapolis.

No timeline has been announced for the Brownsburg location Brownsburg Town Manager Jeff Eder says it won’t likely be until fall, but town leaders are waiting for more details from CRG.

“It’s a fun one. This is an exciting time for Brownsburg,” said Eder.

Green Street Depot recently opened Thai District Restaurant and Noble Roman’s Craft Pizza & Pub has plans to open up in the space in late March.

“These types of projects take time to fill up, especially on the commercial retail side,” said Eder.

He says Paragon Realty, the developer, is being very deliberate when selecting tenants for the project that has changed the landscape of downtown Brownsburg.

Town leaders hearing the news for the first time at the State of the Town are enthusiastic about the latest announcement.

“I think for the town having a business like a BRU Burger looking at and investing in the new development area shows that the vision that the town had a few years back is starting to pay off, “ said Brownsburg Town Councilman Matt Simpson.

“I feel that BRU Burger is the type of restaurant that people are willing to drive to different towns to eat there, so they will really anchor these newer developments. Plus having them invest in Brownsburg instead of the surrounding communities shows Brownsburg is trying to change the perception that they are not business-friendly. This is a big win for residents of Brownsburg.”

As downtown Brownsburg continues to take shape, projects are popping up in other areas of town.

Arni’s Inc. restaurant has recently applied for its alcoholic beverage permit to move into the former Scotty’s Brewhouse. The location on West Northfield Drive has sat empty for months since the restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy.
