Brownsburg town leaders have issued a building permit to construct a new Kroger grocery store at the former Kmart property located at 975 N. Green Street that has sat empty since the store closed its doors in 2017. Construction fencing went up just before Thanksgiving to demolish and build a bigger Kroger. For residents and town leaders of the growing Brownsburg community, a new grocery store has been a top priority for years.
“We’re very excited to welcome a larger and upgraded Kroger to Brownsburg to serve our growing community,” said Brownsburg Economic Development Director Debbie Cook.
“The new design will greatly improve the aesthetics of the area and will be a very nice reuse of the (soon to be vacant) property.”
She says there have been discussions regarding the potential use of the former Kroger site off Green Street that could bring exciting shopping options to Brownsburg but did not give details.
Demolition of the old Kmart will begin in several weeks.
