The Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) has chosen Brooke Phillips, principal of Maple Grove Elementary School, as its 2020 District 9 Elementary Principal of the Year.
“Mrs. Phillips is passionate about serving the needs of her students and staff,” said Dr. Rich Arkanoff, superintendent. “She has a huge heart and works every day to provide a student-centered environment where students can receive the best foundation possible.” “I am humbled and honored to have been named the District 9 Principal of the Year. Each day I get to serve the most amazing students, families, staff and community,” said Phillips. “This award is representative of what we do together at Maple Grove, as we are truly a team. I am incredibly grateful for my district colleagues and our collaboration as well. I love the kids, I love my staff and fellow administrators, and I am grateful every day for this opportunity to be a principal.”
Phillips has led Maple Grove Elementary since 2011. Before moving to Center Grove, she served as an elementary principal in Edinburgh and as a teacher in Carmel. This is her 13th year as an elementary principal and 21st year as an elementary educator. Phillips will be recognized on Sunday, Nov. 22 as part of the 2020 Principals of the Year Recognition Celebration, during the IASP’s annual Fall Professional Conference. District Elementary Principals of the Year are elected by their peers. One principal is honored from each of the 12 districts. District 9 is located in south central Indiana and is made up of Bartholomew, Brown, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Monroe and Morgan Counties.
From these 12 District Elementary Principal winners, one is chosen as the 2020 State Elementary Principal of the Year. The state winner will be announced at the award celebration. The Indiana Association of School Principals is a not-for-profit, professional association serving more than 2,900 building-level administrators in the state of Indiana.
