John Sturm is a lifelong Indy South resident. John met his wife of 33 years, Yvonne, at Ball State University, where they both graduated. His family has been part of the Center Grove community for 26 years – his wife is a Center Grove teacher and his three grown and married children all graduated from Center Grove.  John and Yvonne are also enjoying their first grandchild. John is the CEO of Johnson County REMC and president of JCFiber. John spent 30 years in the wholesale energy industry before joining JCREMC in 2018. His favorite part about his current role is being able to make a positive local impact.  He was recently appointed as board president of Aspire Economic Development + Chamber Alliance.

What do you consider your greatest virtue? Honesty.

What do you most deplore in others? Those who seek revenge over forgiveness.

What do you like most about living in Johnson County? The down-to-earth good people.

If you had to live elsewhere than in Johnson County, where would it be? A tropical beach with my wife, children and grandchildren.

If you could begin life over, what would you change? Smile and laugh more.

If money were no issue, how would you spend it? Balancing more travel with work.

What makes you happiest? Family time.

What is your favorite vacation spot? The beach.

What do you do with idle time? Bike riding, ping pong, golf, outdoor activity, home improvements and landscaping.

What is it that makes you angry? When people boldly lie.

What do you do to escape from reality? Get away to a beautiful outdoor nature setting.

What or who is the greatest love of your life? My wife, Yvonne.

Which living person in Johnson County do you most admire? All civil servants who give so much more than they receive.

What is the quality you most like in a man? Willing to put the work in.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?  Inner strength.

What is your greatest extravagance? Currently building a new home.

What are your fears, phobias? Not living up to my potential.

What has been the happiest time of your life? Raising children with my wife and coaching sports.

Which talent would you most like to possess? Rock star level drummer.

What do you most value in your friends?  Loyalty.

Which historical figure do you most identify with? Ronald Reagan.

What is your greatest regret? Sweating the small stuff.

What tenet do you live by? Faith in Jesus Christ.
