Kroger Health to provide COVID-19 vaccines

By Eric Halvorson

Kroger Health, the healthcare division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) announced it will provide the COVID-19 vaccine nationwide across its 2,200 pharmacies and 220 clinics, partnering with the federal government and state health departments to administer the vaccine in accordance with the rollout plan.

Over the last few months, Kroger Health has worked closely with the Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense as well as the pharmaceutical companies and other businesses to prepare for vaccine authorization. Now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized two vaccines, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, Kroger Health will support the phased approach, focusing first on priority populations as defined by federal and state governments.

Kroger continues to advocate on behalf of associates for essential workers to have priority access to the vaccine in line with the organization’s efforts earlier this year to help associates access personal protection equipment like masks and gloves.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, Kroger has been a leader in protecting the health and safety of everyone in our stores,” added Ed Siegfried, manager of Kroger at 5961 N. State Road 135 in Greenwood. “Providing vaccines will be one more example of that commitment. I know our Health and Wellness team will work diligently with public health officials to ensure people who want the vaccine can get it and do so from the Kroger medical professionals they have trusted for years.”

Kroger Health is hiring nearly 1,000 health care personnel, including pharmacy technicians, to support operations and the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. Kroger Health is also committed to training current associates. To view opportunities and apply, visit Jobs.Kroger.com.
