Sara Bender is no longer the executive director of the Avon Education Foundation (AEF).

Her last day was on Dec. 3 and the board is currently looking to fill the position, according to Shane Sommers, AEF board president.

He did not give any details on the decision.

“Anything that has to do with human resources, that’s between the board and that employee and I won’t comment on that,” said Sommers.

“We wish her the best in future endeavors and the board is focusing on the transition and hiring of a new executive director.  The board is currently handling all the operational needs of AEF during this transition in leadership.”

Bender served as executive director of the Avon Education Foundation since 2017.

The nonprofit organization is devoted to supporting the educational needs of the schools through fundraising, grants, and volunteering.

AEF board leaders say they will seamlessly continue their teacher grants and planning for the Monte Carlo fundraiser on March 7, 2020.

The ideal candidate for the executive director position will be someone with ties to the Avon community who has a passion for education.

Bender did not respond to the ICON’s request for a comment, however she posted on Facebook earlier today this comment: “Upon completion of my CEFL (Certified Education Foundation Leader), I have ignited a passion for empowering leaders at Education Foundations. While I will miss my friends in Avon, I am excited to open a new chapter in my career and I look forward to supporting the work of more foundations. This week I’m thrilled to be traveling to Bartholomew Consolidated Schools Foundation to consult with my friend and colleague Suzi Bernard Bruin!”
