Inspiring achievement

By Nicole Davis

Graduates of Center Grove and its community members have gone on to do some amazing things – in their careers and within the community. Center Grove Alumni & Friends wants to recognize those accomplishments. This year, they will celebrate the inaugural Hall of Fame – but first, they need applicants.

“In looking at the things other schools do with their alumni association, we realized one of the things missing here at Center Grove is a hall of fame,” said Jennifer Rakow, executive director of the Center Grove Education Foundation. “We began looking at how do we recognize our alumni and their achievements. We want to recognize graduates and community members both for their achievements and their contributions to our school corporation. … This is something we’re past due for here at Center Grove.”

Applications for the first Center Grove Hall of Fame are due by April 30. Alumni & Friends set requirements for eligibility which include:

– The nominee must be a graduate from Center Grove High School at least 10 years ago or have been a resident of the Center Grove community for a continuous period of at least 10 years or have made substantial contributions to the community.

– The nominee must have a special achievement in their area of specialty and/or received honors, awards or other recognition on a local, regional, national, or international level.

– The nominee has demonstrated leadership, character and service to society in general or to a specific segment of society.

– Nominations for posthumous awards are accepted.

“We’ve received a few applications and we’re excited,” Rakow said. “It’s neat to see the amazing things our alumni are doing. Then we have that information we can share with our students. By recognizing these individuals, we hope it will inspire future students.”

After the April 30 deadline, the selection committee will meet and anticipate having selections made by May. A celebration will be held in the fall; details are still being finalized. Those interested can submit the application electronically at centergrovealumni.org, print a version of the application and mail it in, or pick up an application at the Center Grove Education Service Center, 4800 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood.
