Two dead in early afternoon gunfight in Brownsburg

Brownsburg police are still investigating a shooting involving multiple gunshots near Grant and 56th streets around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Police are releasing few details so as not to compromise the investigation.
Corporal Chris Nelson said police were dispatched to the area on reports of multiple gunshots and a victim down in the roadway.
“When our guys got there, they did indeed find one male down in the roadway from gunshot wounds,” Nelson said. “They also found a subsequent down in the roadway deceased of gunshot wounds.”
The first victim was found just south of the 56th and Grant intersection on Grant Street. The second male was west of the intersection on 56th Street.
Police are still investigating the scene and interviewing witnesses. Nelson said the closure of the streets ended around 9:30 p.m.
There is no exact number of shots fired or any identifying information on the victims except that they were adult males. Police struggled to notify next of kin and hope to release identities on Wednesday afternoon.
Jones said investigators are convinced there is absolutely no ongoing threat to the community.
“There are no perpetrators at large that pose a threat to the community,” Nelson said.
Speculation on social media was the second victim was the shooter of the first victim. Nelson also would not verify rumors that an armed Good Samaritan may have shot the second male.
Police are not releasing a motive, relationship or where the two victims were from.
The story will be updated.
