Crews with Plainfield Fire Territory responded to a house fire early this morning where a man and his dog were found dead.
Firefighters responded to the home in the 8000 block of Red Bud Court in Plainfield around 1:30 a.m.
When they arrived, fire responders located a man inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene, along with his dog, according to fire investigators.
Firefighters got the fire under control in about 20 minutes.
A neighbor who noticed the fire and tried to help by getting the dog out was treated for smoke inhalation.
“The fire was reported by a neighbor who had noticed the fire and knew the person. The neighborhood tried to get inside. He did find the dog but it was deceased,” said Plainfield Fire Territory Chief Brent Anderson.
Investigators with the State Fire Marshals Office are working to determine a cause.
